Dear Polaris Owner,
This notice is sent to you in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) and in accordance with the requirements of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act. This is to inform you that your vehicle could contain a defect that could affect the safety of a person. Our records show you have purchased an affected vehicle.
The reason for this notice:
Polaris has determined that some 2020 RANGER XP 1000 and RANGER Diesel vehicles may have been produced with a drive clutch stationary sheave that was manufactured incorrectly. An incorrectly manufactured stationary sheave may cause the engine braking feature to not release the belt after deceleration. In the event that the drive belt stays engaged after deceleration, the vehicle may continue to move unintentionally, posing the risk of a potential crash.
Polaris has released this Safety Bulletin with instructions to measure drive clutch components. Only if the measurements fail the criteria listed, an EBS Sleeve (One-way bearing) replacement is required. The replacement EBS sleeve has components which resolve the incorrectly manufactured stationary sheave on vehicles that fail the inspection.
What you should do:
Contact your authorized Polaris Dealer to schedule an appointment to have the repairs performed. Do not attempt repairs yourself. Repairs must be done only by an authorized Polaris dealer. This repair should take approximately 1 hour. When making contact with your dealer, discuss parts availability, their schedule and how long they will need to keep your vehicle.
DO NOT OPERATE YOUR VEHICLE UNTIL THIS SAFETY RECALL HAS BEEN COMPLETED BY YOUR DEALER.
What your dealership will do:
To address this concern, Polaris has authorized your dealer to install a new EBS Sleeve Assembly if necessary. This work will be performed by your dealer at no cost to you.
This notice was mailed to you according to our most current registration information. If you no longer own this vehicle, or if some of the contact information in this notice is incorrect, please contact your dealer to complete a transfer of ownership. Federal law requires that any vehicle lessor receiving this recall notice must forward a copy of this notice to the lessee within 10 days.
