Model Year 2022+ RANGER SP 570 Wheel/Brake System Inspection and Tire Rotation

Required Tools and Supplies: 

  • 17mm Socket
  • Torque Wrench

Always wear safety glasses and nitrile gloves when servicing your Polaris RANGER.

To inspect the wheels and brake system and perform a tire rotation on your RANGER SP 570, follow these steps:

1. Take a close look at each tire. 

a. Using a tire depth gauge, verify there is sufficient tread depth. Tires should be replaced once they reach one-eighth inch or 3 millimeters of tread depth.

b. Inspect for damage that may compromise the integrity of the tire.

c. Inspect the tire pressure and verify it is set to specification. Reference the owner’s manual or tire pressure label on your vehicle for the correct specification.

d. Take a close look at how the tires are wearing. If there is irregular wear, it may be time for a rotation.

2. Inspect the fluid level and condition in the master cylinder, located in the driver’s side front wheel well. Ensure the level is between the min and max marks. 

a. If needed, turn the two quarter-turn latches on the hood and slide forward to remove.

b. Clean around the cap and remove to add fluid. The recommended fluid is DOT 4 Brake Fluid, part number 2872189. Keep in mind that if the fluid is low, you may have a leak or worn brake pads. Do not allow brake fluid to contact painted surfaces or paint damage may occur.

c. Continue by aligning the mounting tabs on the hood and sliding into place.

d. Secure the hood by turning the two quarter turn latches.

3. Remove the tires from the vehicle. 

a. Loosen the lug nuts with a 17mm socket attached to a breaker bar while the vehicle is on the ground but do not remove at this time.

b. Safely elevate the vehicle. Reference your Owner's Manual for proper lifting techniques.

c. Once safely elevated, remove the lug nuts and set aside. 

d. Remove the wheels and set aside. 

4. Inspect the banjo bolts on the passenger side of the master cylinder for leaks. Tip: A mirror and flashlight can be used to help see the bolts. 

a. Follow the lines all the way to the front calipers, looking for any leaks, kinks or damage. Ensure the brake line retainers are properly secured.

b. Inspect the connections at the front brake calipers for leaks.

c. Follow the brake lines to the rear of the vehicle, checking for leaks, kinks and damage. 

d. Inspect the connections at the junction block in the driver’s rear wheel well for leaks.

e. Follow the brake line to the rear brake calipers, looking for leaks, kinks and damage. Ensure the brake line retainers are properly secured.

f. Inspect the rear brake calipers and connections for leaks. 

g. If inspection reveals any concerns, DO NOT attempt to drive the vehicle. See your authorized Polaris Dealer. 

5. Take a look at the brake pads and rotors. Always allow the brakes to cool completely before inspecting to prevent the risk of burns.

a. Check the brake pad thickness using a suitable tool. Be sure to check the thickness on the inside pads as well and replace any pads that are worn beyond their minimum thickness of 0.030” (0.762 mm). 

b. Use a brake rotor measuring tool to measure the thickness of the brake rotors. Replace any rotors that are worn below the minimum thickness. The minimum front rotor thickness is 0.140” (3.56 mm) and the minimum rear rotor thickness is 0.170” (4.32 mm). 

6. The tires can be rotated, if applicable, and reinstalled. Due to different configurations, some wheels may not be able to be rotated. Always pay attention to all markings and directional indicators on the tires.

a. Install the wheels on the vehicle and hand tighten the lug nuts.

b. Safely lower the vehicle until the tires begin to touch the ground. This will help keep the wheels in place when torqueing. 

c. Once lowered, torque the lug nuts to specification in a crisscross pattern. 

  • For aluminum tires, torque to 30 ft-lbs (41 Nm) and turn an additional ¼ turn
  • For steel tires, torque to 36 ft-lbs (49 Nm) and turn an additional ¼ turn 

d. Lower the vehicle completely.
